We’re changing the way we approach data disposal and waste management here at Perigon One, giving our clients complete confidence that their old technologies are being handled in the best way.
As you probably already know, the way we’re handling waste here in Australia is changing. Under the National Waste Policy Action Plan 2019, the export of many forms of waste to foreign countries was banned, encouraging us all to develop improved processes for managing waste domestically.
As part of Perigon One’s commitment to the environment, we’re keen to do everything we can to dispose of old IT equipment and outdated technologies in a way that’s both convenient for our clients, and supportive of a brighter tomorrow. However, we also need to ensure that our processes are continuing to keep your sensitive business data safe, even if you no longer require it.
The data disposal challenge
It’s a time of widespread change in how waste is managed in Australia. One of the priorities for businesses today is making sure they’re working with IT partners who can dispose of their old technologies in a way that’s best for the environment. Unfortunately, many of these processes fail to take into account the importance of disposing of the data that’s housed within those technologies.
Organisations are collecting and storing more data than ever before. And while much of it is stored within the cloud, there is always a chance that some data will be saved locally, and not properly deleted prior to hardware disposal. This means that laptops and computers, mobile devices, external hard drives, USB thumb drives, servers, and other network equipment could contain sensitive data.
Without proper data disposal, businesses risk their data becoming lost, stolen, or leaked. This could result in a significant security breach, putting your business, your employees, and your customers at risk. Such a breach could damage your reputation within your industry, and spark the need for recovery action.
Don’t let that happen to you.
Our approach
Our approach to data disposal and waste management is different, combining data protection with eco-friendly processes to deliver a comprehensive service that keeps you safe and green.
We want to ensure we’re able to provide all our clients with convenient, responsible, and secure waste disposal solutions. To that end, we’re partnering with a leading sustainability-focused recycling company that permanently erases all data from unwanted business technologies. This includes any data that’s been secured with passwords, or hidden in device configuration overlay (DCO) areas of a hard disk.
What this means for you
When replacing any new equipment within your business, we’ll apply an additional charge imposed by our waste management partner, which will cover the costs of environmental disposal and a certificate of destruction. This provides you with complete peace of mind that your technologies have been disposed of in a way that minimises the impact on our planet, and that your data has been destroyed both securely and permanently.
At Perigon One, our mission has always been to simplify your business IT, and provide you with total confidence that you’re operating securely. This update to our waste processes helps us achieve that.
If you have any questions about our data and waste disposal procedures, feel free to get in touch.
