We’d been providing Mining Plus with ad hoc IT support for a while when they approached us for help, so we knew their situation. They had been employing just one IT engineer, who charged them a lot for an underwhelming level of support. They were also reliant on an external data centre.
By consolidating their IT infrastructure in-house, redesigning their network, and providing 24/7 support, we achieved:
Mining Plus’s global network wasn’t fit for purpose, and proactive maintenance was never carried out. This meant that issues regularly arose that caused serious downtime.
Their data wasn’t completely backed up, or retained for long enough to comply with the law.
The company also had data replication issues, which often affected their clients.
With 180 staff to support, Mining Plus needed a cost-effective IT solution that would grow along with their business.
From providing occasional support, Perigon One stepped up to act as Mining Plus’s dedicated outsourced IT department. For a scalable fixed cost, we were able to provide all the help they needed. This was already much more cost-effective than relying on just one person.
We brought all IT services back in-house, eliminating reliance on the external data centre. Our smart redesign streamlined and simplified the whole system, making troubleshooting easier and increasing reliability.
Within the first year, we redesigned the global network to make it more reliable, with instantaneous data replication services across all office locations. We also reviewed and implemented the data backup and retention requirements, and collated all the data into a central depository.
Finally, we helped Mining Plus to create an archiving strategy and data storage policies, to ensure full compliance going forward.
Replacing ineffective, patchy, single-person IT support with our own outsourced team was the single biggest saving: an impressive $80K in the first year alone. With multi-skilled 24/7 support, there was less costly downtime and no unplanned outlay for ad hoc services.
Eliminating the cost of the external data centre saved a further $20K per year, with no further investment required in local hardware equipment.
With less downtime, Mining Plus’s consultants became more productive. Staff productivity increased by 5% in the first year.
This increase in productivity and the new, proactive approach to IT allowed Mining Plus much greater freedom to be forward-thinking. Because the new system is scalable, there’s no barrier to growing the business. And with everything running smoothly, nobody needs to waste time and energy on reacting to issues.
By overhauling data storage and retention, and ensuring compliance with the legal regulations, we also averted potentially costly – and very damaging – repercussions in the future.
