Outlook’s New Priority View Highlights Your Important Emails

Outlook will soon flag your most important emails

How much time do you spend each day sorting through emails, trying to decide what actually needs your attention?
If you are like most business owners, the answer is probably more than you would like to admit.

Customer queries, supplier updates, internal messages and the occasional bit of noise can make your inbox feel overwhelming. And when important emails get buried, it can easily lead to delays, miscommunication or missed opportunities.

Microsoft is introducing something that aims to make this a lot easier.

Outlook for iOS and Android will soon use Copilot, Microsoft’s AI assistant, to highlight the most important messages in your inbox. The new feature is called Priority view, and it sorts your emails into two simple categories: High Priority and Needs Replies.

So when you open Outlook on your phone, the emails that matter most will stand out straight away.

What makes Priority view useful

We all know how easy it is for important messages to slip through the cracks, especially when you are busy or managing multiple responsibilities. Priority view reduces that risk by ensuring the most urgent emails appear right where you need them.

For employees, it takes away the stress of trying to keep up with an overflowing inbox. No more worrying that something critical has been missed under newsletters, system alerts or group messages.

Microsoft will roll this feature out gradually, and it may take until late 2025 before everyone sees it. It will also only be available to businesses using Microsoft 365 with a Copilot licence, since Copilot is a paid add on.

Why this matters for small businesses

Email is still one of the main communication tools for most businesses. When your inbox is overloaded, it becomes much easier to overlook something important. That can delay projects, affect client relationships or disrupt workflows.

A feature like Priority view helps reduce that risk by doing the sorting for you, so you can focus on what actually needs your attention.

What you can do now

If you want to make the most of Priority view when it arrives, start by ensuring your business:

  • Uses the latest Outlook mobile apps

  • Has the right Microsoft 365 licences in place

  • Is considering Copilot as part of its productivity tools

  • Reviews existing email rules and clutter settings

  • Encourages staff to manage inboxes using best practices

Preparing early means you can benefit from the feature as soon as it becomes available.
