This new search feature is exclusive to Microsoft’s new line of Copilot+ PCs — AI-powered machines that include a Neural Processing Unit (NPU).

The NPU handles AI tasks right on your device — no internet needed — making it faster, more private, and more capable. This powers new features like:

Natural language file search
Smarter Microsoft Copilot assistance
Local AI tools for productivity, creativity, and admin tasks

And yes, this smarter search even works with your OneDrive files — making it even easier to find what you need, even if it’s in the cloud.

What’s the Status?

Right now, this feature is rolling out in preview builds of Windows 11 for Copilot+ devices. It’s not widely available yet, but it’s close, and a full release is expected soon.

If your current setup doesn’t include a Copilot+ PC, you won’t see this update. But if you’re planning a hardware refresh this year, this could be a feature worth factoring in.
